Honoring Foster Care Month and the Families Who Say “Yes!”
May is National Foster Care Month, a time set aside to recognize the lives touched by foster care and to honor the families and individuals who step forward with courage, compassion, and love. At Encourage, this month gives us a special opportunity to pause, reflect, and say a heartfelt thank you to the families who open their homes—and their hearts—to children and teens in need.

Foster care has never been about programs or statistics alone. It is about real people, real stories, and real impacts. Every decision to say “yes” represents a family stepping into a child’s story at a moment when stability and care matter most.
You Never Walk Alone
Choosing to step into foster care is not a small decision. It is a calling that invites people into stories that are complex, emotional, and deeply human. It brings moments of joy and connection, alongside moments of heartbreak and uncertainty. We see this reality every day, and we are continually humbled by the families who say “yes” even when the road ahead feels unknown.

One of the most important parts of the foster care journey is knowing you are not walking it alone. At Encourage, we believe no foster family should have to navigate the emotions, challenges, or victories on their own. From the first inquiry to each placement and transition along the way, we are committed to walking alongside families—offering guidance, advocacy, resources, and a listening ear. Because foster care is about real people, the support must be real too—present, compassionate, and consistent.
Holding Space for Every Emotion
Foster care brings a wide range of emotions. There is hope and excitement, but also grief, exhaustion, and moments of doubt. There are celebrations of milestones and growth, and there are hard goodbyes that leave lasting marks on the heart. Having an agency that understands this spectrum—and honors it—matters.
At Encourage, we don’t just support the process; we support the people. We sit with families in hard moments, celebrate wins big and small, and remind them that every act of love has meaning—even when the outcome isn’t what they imagined.
These are real stories unfolding in real time, and they deserve to be met with empathy and care.
The Impact Reaches Far Beyond One Home
The beauty of foster care is that its impact extends far beyond a single placement or moment in time.
For kids, it means safety, stability, and the chance to feel seen and valued during a critical season of life.
For biological families, it can mean time, support, and hope—the space to heal, grow, and work toward restoration.
For foster families, it becomes a journey that shapes hearts, deepens empathy, and creates lasting purpose.
For support systems—extended family, friends, churches, and communities—it’s an opportunity to step in with meals, childcare, prayers, encouragement, and love.
When people come together in foster care, real impact is made—not just for one child or one family, but for an entire community.

Gratitude for the Village
During Foster Care Month, we want to recognize not only foster parents, but also the village that surrounds them. Those who babysit on short notice, send encouraging texts, show up with meals, or simply listen—your presence matters more than you know.
Foster care was never meant to be done alone. When communities rally together, the weight becomes lighter, the journey becomes more sustainable, and the impact becomes stronger. Love shows up in many forms, and every form counts.
Looking Ahead with Hope
As we celebrate Foster Care Month, we also look ahead with gratitude and hope. Hope for children to experience consistency and care. Hope for biological families to find healing and restoration. Hope for foster families to feel supported and encouraged every step of the way.
And to those considering foster care, know this: you don’t have to have all the answers. You simply have to be willing to take the next step. At Encourage, we are honored to walk with you—because foster care is about real people, real stories, and real impact.
Happy Foster Care Month. 💙
